Planned Gifts

A Cornucopia of Planned Gifts for Political Science

In 2012, three planned gifts from CSBS alumni were given to the Political Science Department. Stan Katz, a real estate developer and jazz musician who took many classes in political science, gave $2.5 million for the creation of the Francis D. Wormouth Presidential Endowed Chair in Political Science. Stan left the same amount for a chair in Philosophy. It is one of the largest planned gifts the U has ever received.

Betty Gladd, a Political Science graduate who taught political science throughout her career at a number of universities, left $500,000 to the department. The gift will be used to support faculty research, to expand the number of graduate assistant appointments and to bring visiting fellows to deliver workshops for faculty and students.

Finally, Judy Kelly, a Political Science graduate in 1971, gave $250,000 to the department for the creation of the Judy Kelly and Richard Whitlock Endowed Scholarship. The endowment will provide scholarship support for undergraduate students in political science.
