Banuri appointed HEC chairman
Tariq Banuri, professor (lecturer) of economics, has been appointed the fourth chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) by the Prime Minister
of Pakistan. The HEC is an independent, constitutionally established institution,
with a mandate to finance, oversee, regulate, and accredit all institutions of higher
learning in Pakistan. The Chairman is the chief executive of the Commission, with
the rank and status of a Federal Minister, and appointed for a four-year term by the
