Political scientist Yuree Noh’s research tackles the tools of repression used by authoritarian regimes.

Matthew Burbank, professor in the Department of Political Science, shares his expertise in the dynamics of hosting the Olympics as Salt Lake City gears up to welcome the winter games for the second time. His research focuses on why cities pursue hosting the Olympics despite the high costs and uncertain economic returns, as well as the evolving nature of opposition to these bids.

Political Science professor Claudio Holzner was featured in a recent article discussing the political crisis in Venezuela and its impact on migration to the U.S. and Utah. Holzner explained that Utah is an increasingly attractive destination for Venezuelan migrants due to its strong economy and family connections, though local organizations are struggling to support the growing population.

The College of Social and Behavioral Science (CSBS) is proud to announce that Iragi Nshangalume, an undergraduate majoring in political science and economics, with a minor in philosophy, has been awarded the esteemed Voyager Scholarship from the Obama Foundation for the 2024-2026 cohort.
