May Weighs in on Machine Identifying Suicidal Thoughts
New study uses neural imaging with machine learning to predict with a pretty surprising degree of accuracy who’s had thoughts of suicide and who hasn’t—and even among those with thoughts of suicide, who has made an attempt and who hasn’t. Postdoctoral fellow of clinical psychology, Alexis May, says the results are promising, but stresses how preliminary the study is. “These results leave open many questions about the mechanisms at work and the clinical implications given the intensive nature of the task and the expense of fMRI.” Read more about the study.
