Students Seize Signature Experiences

As President Pershing works to improve the student experience through the new "My University Signature Experience" initiative (MUSE), CSBS students are jumping at the chance to do just that.  Whether they are taking part in research, internships, student-organized committees, or other out-of-class opportunities, these students are making the most of their time at the U.

"My signature experience spawned from being in the right place at the right time, being ambitious, and helping others. I work in marketing and while I was starting my bachelor degree at the U I was also training interns from the U at my company. After doing this for two companies, I made some incredible friends and realized the value of finding high quality internships. Then I was lucky enough to stumble upon Utah Community Research Group (a student group at the U of U) and get involved with an awesome class. This in turn led me to an incredible internship opportunity where I am getting trained on advanced econometrics, statistical analysis, and market research. Why is that important? This is like a capstone event for my degree. It is the advanced training that will launch me into a career that I wouldn't have gotten anywhere else."

"My signature experience at the University of Utah is a combination of different opportunities that have enhanced my academic endeavors. Every involvement has refined my college educational experience at the university, whether that be from internships in Washington D.C. and Brussels Belgium, to working as a college ambassador, to involvement in ASUU as the Student Body Vice President. Through my scholastic endeavors I have pursued a greater knowledge of government, higher education, and local, national and international affairs. My recommendation to students is to get involved-whether it be on campus, in the community, or abroad."

"I think it is important to have a signature experience here at the U because you will never get this chance again. There are so many resources and opportunities available to students as an undergraduate. It requires a bit of work to network and get your name out there, but once that is done, even more opportunities become available to you. As an undergraduate at the U, there are even more opportunities that are not available at other universities. Programs such as MUSE and UROP allow undergraduates to conduct relevant research and projects that will give them a glimpse of what their future career will be like."
