CSBS Celebrates National Family Caregiving Month

In recognition of National Family Caregivers Month, the University of Utah will host a special community event to celebrate and support the more than 450,000 Utahns who provide unpaid care to family members and loved ones.

The event will feature a free public screening and discussion of Caregiving - a new PBS documentary executive produced by Bradley Cooper - on Monday, November 3, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts (UMFA). Complimentary parking will be available for all guests.

Presented in partnership with the university’s Family Caregiving Collaborative, PBS Utah, AARP Utah, the University of Utah College of Nursing, Larkin Mortuary, the evening will explore the challenges, rewards, and growing need for caregiving support, nationally and locally.

“Family caregiving touches nearly every household in some way,” said Dr. Rebecca Utz, Professor of Sociology, Associate Dean in the College of Social and Behavioral Science, and member of the University’s Family Caregiving Collaborative. “This event honors the incredible work being done by caregivers in our communities. By celebrating National Family Caregivers Month, we aim to spotlight the research, education, and outreach happening right here at the University of Utah to improve caregiver well-being.”

The University’s College of Social and Behavioral Science (CSBS) is proud to join this effort by highlighting faculty and student research that examines the social, economic, and health dimensions of caregiving. CSBS will spotlight ongoing projects focused on family health, aging, social policy, and community resilience - demonstrating how research within the college contributes to understanding and supporting caregivers across Utah and beyond.

This event is free and open to the public.
