University of Utah Army ROTC Named Top Program in Multi-State U.S. Army Brigade
Salt Lake City, Utah — The University of Utah Army ROTC battalion has been named the top program in its
size category across the U.S. Army’s 5th ROTC Brigade, a region spanning nine states
and 41 universities.
The recognition was presented by U.S. Army Cadet Command during its Senior Leadership Workshop following Cadet Summer Training (CST), the Army’s national evaluation of ROTC cadets and programs.
The honor — the General Douglas MacArthur Unit Award (Small Program Category) — recognizes the highest-performing ROTC programs based on leadership development, training results, physical readiness, and overall cadet performance.
In addition to earning the brigade’s top small-program distinction, University of Utah cadets also placed highly in individual competitive categories:
- 2nd place — Marksmanship
- 3rd place — Leadership
During Cadet Summer Training, programs compete in multiple evaluated areas including fitness, land navigation, rifle marksmanship, leadership performance, and overall training proficiency. Results determine regional program rankings across the brigade.
The 5th ROTC Brigade — sometimes called the “Apache Brigade” — includes universities across the western and central United States. The University of Utah’s recognition places it among the top Army officer-producing programs in the region.
The University of Utah Army ROTC program prepares students to commission as officers in the United States Army, Army Reserve, or Army National Guard while completing their academic degrees.
