During the pandemic, domestic violence cases and deaths have increased dramatically. “It certainly is a preventable situation that our society needs more help with, I think,” said Dr. Sonia Salari. Salari is a professor at the University of Utah and a board member with the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition.

Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) are by far the biggest challenge for new and pregnant moms today. Even before the pandemic, at least about 1 in 7 new moms (15%) suffered from postpartum depression (PPD). In women of color and/or living in poverty, the number is much higher.
FBI data shows that in 2018, approximately 300,000 Utahns applied for a new gun background check. By 2020, it was more than 1.2 million.
