Farnaz (Nanaz) Kashefi was born in Tehran, Iran and raised in Utah after her parents transferred to the University of Utah to pursue their respective Masters degrees in 1986. Ms. Kashefi graduated with a Bachelor's Degree (BA) in Political Science and a Certificate in International Relations in 2000. Ms. Kashefi was a recipient of the JD Williams Scholarship and a Hinckley Institute White House Intern in 2000.

Ms. Kashefi is an attorney practicing in California and currently serves as in-house Counsel at West Coast University and American Career College in Southern California. Ms. Kashefi advises the University on all labor and employment matters as well as commercial transactions and projects. In 2005, Ms. Kashefi published a legal and business guide in the Cornell International Law Journal, entitled "Doing Business in the Middle East, A Primer for U.S. Companies Doing Business Abroad," (2005, Volume 38, Number 2)

Ms. Kashefi is also a creative writer, in the genre of poetry currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Degree at New York University (NYU) where she is expected to graduate in 2016.
