Congratulations to ESS Director Phil Dennison
ESS Director Phil Dennison was recognized with the Outstanding Contributions in Remote
Sensing Award this spring. The award is given by the American Association of Geographers Remote Sensing
Specialty Group. Phil has run the Utah Remote Sensing Applications Lab since arriving
at the University of Utah in 2004.
Over the years, his remote sensing research has focused on vegetation, wildfires, and firefighter safety. He has had an active role in expanding the applications of hyperspectral remote sensing, including wildfire temperature, non-photosynthetic vegetation, and demonstrating the first high resolution mapping of carbon dioxide plumes.
